Sony and Microsoft today announced a competition that challenges consumers to create designs for the new line of VAIO Graphic Splash notebooks. The contest starts today through August 10th, 2008. Designers can submit their designs online at www.sony.com/mygraphicsplash with a photo of themselves and a short message that explains their design. The winner’s design will be made into limited-edition VAIO notebooks. FYI, the new VAIO My Graphic Splash notebook line will be released online at www.sony.com/pr/mygraphicsplash later this fall for a limited time. [Sony]

Here is the new gaming monster from Maingear. Dubbed as the eX-L, the laptop is powered by a 3.06GHz Core 2 Extreme X9100 processor with a couple of ATI GPUs or a single NVIDIA unit, a 17 inch display, built-in speakers with subwoofers and 802.11n WiFi. Gigabyte today launched a new Gigabyte Netbook M912V tablet PC that comes with a 8.9-inch swivel touch screen display and Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor with Intel 945GSE chipset. The tablet also adopts 2.5 inch 160GB SATA hard drive, 1GB DDR2 RAM, Express Card slot, optional HSDPA, and a built-in 1.3MP webcam. Other features include 3x USB ports, dual 1.5 watt speakers, Bluetooth, and 802.11b/g wireless. The Netbook M912V will be available later this month for $699. [PCLaunches]
