CES 2007 - OLPC Video Preview

CES 2007 - OLPC Video Preview

Our friends at Engadget show us a hands-on preview of the OLPC from CES 2007. Just to refresh our mind, the OLPC is powered by a 500Mhz Processor, Linux OS, 1GB Memory, and a Two-Mode Display (Color and B&W). Video after the jump!

Nick Negroponte’s OLPC made an appearance at CES, in partner Marvell’s booth. Marvell supplies the 802.11 b/g chipset, as well as a chipset made exclusively for mesh networking. Fortunately for us (but unfortunately for Marvell) we all know why everyone showed up, and it definitely wasn’t for ICs. Take a look up top, or download at the bottom.

Seamless WiFi S-XGen Ultra-Mobile PC

Seamless Wifi S-XGen Ultra-Mobile PC

The fold-out keyboard really makes the Seamless WiFi S-XGen UMPC something special. The S-XGen features a 520MHz Intel Xscale processor, 4-inch screen, 128MB SDRAM, 20GB HDD, 802.11b Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Ethernet. At $1400, the S-XGen runs on Windows CE 5.0 and comes equipped with Microsoft Office Mobile Suite, so it might not have the same operating system as competing UMPC’s (Windows XP Tablet PC Edition) but the fold-out keyboard and its connectivity options gives it an edge.

Kohjisha SA1F00 on Video

Kohjisha’s SA1F00 UMPC provides a 500MHz AMD Geode LX800 processor, 1GB of memory, 80GB HDD, a 3-in-1 memory card reader, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, and a 5-hour battery life. Video after the jump!

And get this, it all starts at a mere ¥89,000 (about $754) with a 40GB disk on up to ¥109,800 (about $930) for 80GB of disk and MS Office pre-installed. Compare that to the $1,178 Raon Vega, $2,000 Vaio UX290P, or $800 ASUS R2H and you’ll understand the fuss.
