The Sony VAIO W netbook is now available for pre-order at Amazon for $499 in Brown and Pink colors. As mentioned earlier, this mini laptop is powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 CPU and features a 10.1-inch widescreen LCD with 1366 × 768 pixel resolution, a 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, Bluetooth, Windows XP Home OS and a 3-cell battery with up to 2.5 hours of use time. Sony today updated its Vaio NW70 and NW50 with a 2.53Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 CPU, the Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, a 15.5-inch Wide LCD (1366×768 resolution), a 4GB of RAM (upgradable up to 8GB), and a 500GB of HDD. The NW70 has a Blu-Ray recorder, meanwhile the NW50 comes with only the usual DVD Super Multi. [Akihabara]

The Sony VAIO VGN-P50 will be released in Japan on June 6th, 2009. Measuring 245mm x 120mm x 19.8mm and weights at 626grams, this ultra-compact entry-level laptop boasts an 8-inch ultra wide LCD screen with a 1.33GHz Intel Atom Z520 processor, a 1GB RAM, a 80GB HDD, and Intel’s US15W chipset. Other features include a couple of USB 2.0 slots, IEEE 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, multi-card reader and four hours of battery life. Sony Japan has released a limited edition VAIO Type C Crocodile Edition in Japan. Each laptop is covered with crocodile skin and available in three different colors including red, pink and brown. As for the specs itself, it sports a 14.1-inch LCD display with 1280 x 800 resolution, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS graphics, up to 8GB RAM, up to 500GB hard drive, Windows Vista OS, WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity. The highly anticipated Sony Vaio P netbook will be released soon in Japan. This foreign Vaio P version is powered by a 1.86GHz CPU. You can buy it for a hefty $1,500 upwards with a 3-year retailer warranty. Sadly, it has no 3G and GPS. [Boing Boing]
